A Chisa Nyama with sport stars

Two of these guys are very good sportsmen. The third in good shape from eating lots of meat.

If rugby matches across South Africa inspire fans to light a fire and get a braai going, then the same applies to football: a big game means chisa nyama, and indulging in the time-honoured pastime of sport and braai. And with some of South Africa’s top footballers dropping in on the Vodacom Origins of Golf tournament in Pretoria for a golf lesson, Jan Braai cheerfully accepted an invitation to fire up a braai for all of the players.

The toned Doug McGuigan, Jan Braai, and Josta Dladla the butcher.

Sunshine Tour pro (and teller of the world’s worst jokes) Doug McGuigan was one of the golfers giving lessons; the players included former Bafana star Mark Fish, Orlando Pirates maestro Daine Klate (fresh from winning the league with the Buccaneers), and most importantly, Kaizer Chiefs’ Josta Dladla. Why so important? Well, until recently Dladla owned a butchery; he’s had to sell it because of his football commitments, but reckons he’ll buy another one when he quits football. That won’t happen any time soon, but when it does, Jan has a new butchery to add to his hitlist – and three more footballers to happily salute as National Braai Day ambassadors. Oh, and watch this space for something special happening with Josta Dladla soon…
