As every social media, 27 dinner, twitter blogger in Cape Town knows by now, the spice people Nomu (Paul & Tracy) does a poster competition every month. They typically bribe someone with a bag of their products to appear on it, and this month it was Roxanne Floquet and myself. If you’re not sure who Roxanne Floquet is don’t worry, I wasn’t either. It is because she is entirely but not quite unlike me. Apart from the fact that she is an expert in her field of food preparation we could not be more different. She lives in a place where I never go, the kitchen. To her, Layer Cake is not a movie, it’s a product that you can eat. She is a designer and sculptor of high class cakes. There might very well be a technical name for this profession, but I have no idea what it is. Ok, the poster (I will explain below how to win all the prizes):
So what we basically went for here is a 1950’s type of setting. When I say we, it wasn’t really we, it was Paul from Nomu’s idea. Anyhow, the idea was me intruding in the kitchen and decorating the cake with boerewors and steak. If you don’t like it, please send your complaints to Paul. If you like it, then please give the praise to the photographer Robert Miller (who also happens to be the guy that did my Twitter profile picture) and to Samantha Laura Kaye (she did our makeup for the shoot, but in real life she is a lingerie model who blogs about cars – yes, really).
The basic structure of this poster promotion is that you need to take a picture of yourself in front of it, and then either post it on Facebook; or post it on Twitter with the hash-tag #steakorcake; or email it to us. It goes without saying that you need to strike a pose in the photo. The best photo will win a whole host of prizes at the end on March. When I say whole host of prizes I refer to:
A R9000 Coffee maker from BOSCH installed in your home, R1000 towards a Roxanne Floquet Cake Design cake order or classes, House & Leisure Magazine subscription for one year, Cape Style Coffee Table Book, Top Releases 5 DVD set from NuMetro, Case Russian Bear “Spiced Vanilla” Vodka to drink while eating your cake, adult compact Micro Scooter, 6-bottle case Klein Constantia 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (5* in Platter Guide) to drink while you braai, Voucher from Africhic, a NoMU Hamper, 2 books from Exclusives and lastly 5 Personal Training Sessions to value of R1100 at Health In Motion Gym to get yourself back in shape after all of the above. There are so many, it’s very possible I missed a few, so consult the poster.
To win all of that, you need to go to the poster, and have a photo of yourself posing in front of it taken. Then you need to:
- Post in on the wall of the Braai4Heritage Facebook page or
- Post it on Twitter with the hash tag #steakorcake (this is easy to remember, as it’s also on the poster) or
- Email it to Roxanne or her colleague (and sister) Debbie.
Now you probably want to know where the poster is. Telling you that would simply make this too easy. There is one poster somewhere in a public spot in Cape Town, and there is one somewhere in a public spot in Johannesburg. They went up today and they will be there until the 31st of March.
