Jan Braai vir Erfenis Episode 7

Jan Braai vir Erfenis

In this week’s episode Jan will be touring in and around one of the new natural wonders of the world, our very own, Table Mountain!
We start early morning in the colourful Bo-Kaap in order for Jan to snack on his favourite breakfast – samosas.  The Bo-Kaap has a rich and wonderful history and we learn more about this at the Atlas Trading Company in Wale street.  For those of you that don’t all ready know, Jan is a currie lover and is in seventh heaven in this spice shop!  Jan stocks up on supplies and heads off to Kalkbay.

The lovely and recently, quite retro Kalk Bay, is home to a variety of quirky shops, great surf and a buzzing harbour where Jan gets a few lessons from the local fish sellers.  After meeting the penguins at the Boulders Penquin Colony the team heads over to Smitswinkel Tented Camp for the night.   This Sanspark camp offers six two sleeper tents, each with en-suite and kitchenette. The camp has been designed to accommodate differently able and physically challenged individuals. The camp has a fully equipped boma with indoor fireplace and “braai” facility.  This is where Jan prepared the fresh catch of the day and the team relaxed under the stars.  This luxury tent just a short drive from the city comes highly recommended!

The next day Jan heads to Cape Point, a nature reserve within the Table Mountain National Park.  Encompassing 7750 hectares of varied flora and fauna, Cape Point is a nature enthusiast paradise.  Even more enthusiastic are the baboons and Jan nearly lost his throat medicine to an inquisitive mother baboon with a toddler on her back!  But the scenic beauty of Cape Point is truly breathtaking and combined with the historical interest this makes for a great day out and break from city life.
Last but not least is lunch at Oudekraal, one of Jan’s favourite spots to braai in the whole wide world. Oudekraal Picnic and Braai Site is situated between Camps’ Bay and Llunduddno. This lovely secluded beach is perfect for a family lunch. The sea is calm and ideal for swimming. It is brilliantly operated by SANParks, alcohol is prohibited and there is a small entrance fee. Please call: +27(0) 21 438 9555, Monday to Sunday. At Oudekraal Jan prepares a delicious chicken curry pot and  munching on our meal, admiring the sea view, it is hard to imagine any other place you would rather be!
