HOMEMADE BOEREWORS SERVED WITH PEACH CHUTNEY

Ingredients

FOR THE PEACH CHUTNEY:

  • 500g peaches, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 2 tots brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 small chilli (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 375 ml white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

    FOR THE BOEREWORS PATTIES:
  • 500g pork mince
  • 500g lean beef mince
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon fine coriander
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg 
  • ½ teaspoon fine cloves
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper 
  • 1 tot water 
  • 1 tot Worcestershire sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns

Method

  1. Place all the ingredients for the chutney into your potjie and simmer over very low heat until cooked and thick. This will take about 30 minutes to reach this point. 
  2. Mix all the ingredients together for the “boerewors” and mix well, making sure the spices are mixed through all the meat.
  3. Using your recently washed hands, form the meat into 6 patties and braai over hot coals.
  4. LIghtly toast your buns and serve the patties straight from the grid on top of the buns with your peach chutney over the patties.
