Jan Braai Coffee
The Story Behind
Jan Braai Coffee
Single Origin Beans
Carefully selected from the highlands of Costa Rica, where the cooler climate ensures slower growth & richer flavors.
Locally Roasted
Locally roasted in Cape Town at a slightly lower temperature to bring out the best in every bean.
Braai is my life, fire my passion, cycling my hobby and coffee my fuel. When my longtime friends Pieter, De Waal & Antonie opened the original Bootlegger coffeeshop in Regent Road, Sea Point, I was one of their first customers. These days, when not at a braai fire somewhere in the world, most of my cycling rides start and finish at the Bootlegger in Bakhoven, which has become my de facto local coffeeshop. Eventually my friends said they will roast bespoke beans for me so I can have my espressos and flat whites at my local coffeeshop made with my own beans. By popular demand, these beans are now available nationally in retail for your enjoyment around a braai fire.
About This Coffee
My coffee is a single Origin Arabica bean from the Costa Rica highlands. This Costa Rica specialty grade coffee is grown under shaded canopies allowing the plants to develop higher yields of ripe fruit filled with natural sweetness. The bean is naturally lower in acidity and roasted to a medium City roast profile with a slightly earlier dropout temperature delivering a sweet butterscotch like flavour without the bitterness. Frankly you should just enjoy every sip around the campfire but when paying careful attention you will notice hints of toffee caramel, vanilla , butterscotch and nougat. Works well in Espresso, Americano, Flat white, Cappuccino, latte, French press and obviously kampketelkoffiie.
Naturally Low Acidity
Perfectly roasted at a slightly lower temperature, resulting in a smooth, medium-bodied coffee with less bitterness. Think of it as "medium rare" for coffee lovers.
Flavour Notes
Look forward to subtle hints of toffee, vanilla, and nougat—delivering a cup of coffee that’s as enjoyable as a great conversation around the fire.
Available at Bootlegger
Jan Braai Coffee is for sale at Bootlegger Coffee Company locations nationwide and in select retail stores. Enjoy it at home, on the go, or next to the fire.
