Chilli Chops with Salsa

What you need

FOR THE CHOPS:

  • 8 lamb chops
  • braai salt
  • 4 garlic cloves (chopped and crushed)
  • 1 fresh chilli (chopped)
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • juice from 1 lemon
  • 2 tots olive oil

 

FOR THE SALSA:

  • 1 mielie
  • 1 red onion (chopped)
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 tomato (chopped)
  • fresh coriander (chopped)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tot white vinegar
  • 1 tot water
  • 1 tot olive oil

what to do

  1. Place the lamb chops in a bowl and season with braai salt. Add the chopped garlic, chilli and chilli flakes. 
  2. Drizzle the lemon juice and olive oil over the spiced chops and let this marinate while you prepare your salsa.
  3. Place the mielie on a grid over hot coals, and braai until charred and cooked. Set aside to cool.
  4. Chop the onion, red pepper and tomatoes into small blocks and place into a glass jar. Cut the kernels off the mielie and add to the jar.
  5. Season with salt and pepper. Add the vinegar, water and olive oil. Place the lid on the jar and give it a good shake to mix everything together.
  6. Open the jar, take a very hot coal from your fire and place into the jar, close immediately with the lid and let this smoke in the closed jar to add a smoked flavour. Open the lid after a few minutes and remove the coal with your tongs.
  7. Braai the lamb chops over hot coals until cooked and serve with your smoked salsa on the side.
