Salsiccia Shakshuka

Jan Braai | Salsiccia Shakshuka Recipe

What you need

  • 1 tot olive oil
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 packet Jan Braai Salsiccia Boerewors
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped and crushed)
  • 1 tot capers
  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tot soya sauce
  • 1 tot balsamic vinegar
  • 6 eggs
  • salt and pepper
  • bread (to serve)

what to do

  1. Heat the oil in your pan and fry the onion until soft. 
  2. Use a sharp knife and remove the boerewors from the casing so you are left with the boerewors mince. Fry the boerewors mince with the onion until cooked
  3. Add the garlic, coriander, cumin, paprika and oregano. Stir and mix everything together and fry for 1 minute. 
  4. Add the capers, soya sauce and balsamic vinegar and mix everything together. 
  5. Add the tin of tomatoes and let this simmer for 5 minutes. 
  6. Use a wooden spoon to create holes in the mince and break the eggs into the mince.
  7. Season the eggs with salt and pepper and let this simmer on low heat until the eggs are cooked to your liking.  
  8. Serve with fire toasted bread.
